The Goats Behind White Tree Farm
Our dairy goats are part of daily life at White Tree Farm. They provide the milk that becomes our small-batch goat cheese, and from time to time, we may have goats available to approved homes.

White Tree Farm goat cheese starts with milk from our own dairy goats. Caring for the herd is part of the daily rhythm of the farm, and the quality of the milk is the foundation for every 4 oz tub of goat cheese we make.

We do request that you come to the farm to see the goats before purchasing to ensure that you and the goat are both compatible.

Goats are herd animals, which means they do not do well without other goats. Due to this, we will make every effort to ensure our goats are sold in pairs or only to individuals who already have other goats.

We do not require a deposit; however, if you are interested in one of the goats we will hold them for you for one week to give you time to come meet the goat and decide if you would like to purchase it. If you do decide to purchase the goat and it is not yet weaned from its mother, we will set up a separate time for you to pick them up. If at this time you tell us you have a name for the goat, we will then start calling them by that name.

Under no circumstances will we sell an un-weaned goat. Normally goats are ready for sale at about eight weeks old. (Don’t worry—they are still bouncy and cute at this age.)

We do not disbud (remove horns) from our goats. This is a personal choice of ours and is not something we are willing to do. If you would like horns removed, you may hire a veterinarian to come to the farm and disbud your goat. Please be aware that we will not be responsible for any complications (infection, etc.) that arise from this procedure. Should an infection occur as part of the disbudding—or any other complications—we will communicate with you to work out a plan of action. Any cost incurred as part of these actions will be your responsibility.

We do offer additional optional services for an extra fee:

– $55 – Banding (neutering the males). If we band, we require the goat to stay with us for two days post-procedure to ensure there are no issues. (Goats older than three months will not be banded.)

– $3.50 per mile – Delivery fee. This is calculated as a round-trip distance from our farm (Google Maps). Most goats can ride safely in a medium-size dog kennel or on someone’s lap (wrapped in a blanket).

– $0.00 – Advice is always free. We were new to goats once, too, so we understand and are here to help.

All sales are final. However, if in the future you decide that the goat is no longer a good fit for your farm, we will gladly discuss rehoming options for you.

Our goats are milking goats and will not knowingly be sold for meat. If you require a meat goat breed, many farms specialize in that (search “boer goats”). Milking breeds have very little meat on them, so they are not cost-effective for that purpose, and everyone ends up disappointed with the yield.
